Race accounts for the 2006 season

A full account for 2006 will follow soon.

Birkett Relay

This was a fantastic race to end the 2006 racing season with.
It was my first ever drive in a multiple-car team event,
and couldn’t have chosen a better group to have than Yellowbelly Racing!
There was a fantastic buzz in the camp all weekend with everyone’s friends and family coming down to give support.

Richard Pearson coped exceptionally well bearing in mind the weekend was his first ever drive in a Locost.
With this in mind he booked Friday testing, but missed the majority of it with mechanical problems.
Despite this, he put in a strong performance and lapped consistently throughout the race.
It Looks positive for Richard in his Locost championship debut in 2007.

Gary Parkes gave a sound perfomance,
keeping me on my toes as we competed with each other for fastest lap within the team.
Gary showed good speed, sending out a message that he means business for next season.
Top 10 finishes should follow.

Vicky Pickles felt at home with this type of event – coming from an endurance karting background. Her reliable and consistent approaches are ideal assets to add to the team.
Vicky always manages to draw from her experience, and continues to improve her lap times, with growing on track confidence and consistency, she should finish high up in the championship next year.

As for myself, this was possibly one of my most rewarding drives to date.
It was a bit of a shock to start with, having only ever raced my car against other Locosts – there was a huge speed differential between competing cars on track.
Anything from XK120s to Caterham Superlights all fighting for the same piece of track!
I soon acclimatised to the situation and enjoyed seeing the interesting mix of machinery in action.
I even played with a Jag for a few laps before managing to break away,
Quite a result for an 85bhp Locost!
I really enjoyed the longer sessions, giving me more time ‘in the groove’ – I can’t wait for next year!

It was a mixed weekend for Keith Presgraves, starting as team manager but suffered from very bad food poisoning.
David Pearson kindly stepped up to the challenge and ran the team very effectively from his pitwall position.
Every car and driver in our team ran faultlessly and without incident throughout the 6-hour race, showing good levels of fitness, reliability and preparation.
In the end, our team finished 35th of 50 in the final standings – pretty good considering our relative lack of experience and the potent machinery we faced!

Big thanks go to my team-mate drivers, team crew (including Frances Presgraves who provided the usual high quality cakes), all family and friends that came to support us or offered moral support as they couldn’t come!
